Wisdom from The 80-Year-Old Wall by Wada

From My Readings on Aging Gracefully this Week

🌸 Wisdom from The 80-Year-Old Wall by Hideki Wada

Dr. Hideki Wada, a Japanese psychiatrist, has struck a chord worldwide with his book The 80-Year-Old Wall. Instead of seeing old age as decline, he reframes life beyond 80 as a stage of freedom, joy, and simplicity. His book distills 44 short “sentences” of advice for living well in later years. Below, I’ve grouped some of the most powerful lessons into themes you may find upliftings.

🏃‍♂️ Health & Body: Move Lightly, Age Freely

  • Keep walking — even slowly. Movement is medicine.

  • Chew thoroughly. Eating mindfully energizes body and spirit.

  • Diapers are fine if they help you move. Independence matters more than appearances.

  • Don’t overtreat health. Too many medicines or strict targets (like blood sugar or blood pressure) can do more harm than good.

  • High cholesterol and mild hypertension aren’t always enemies. Sometimes they support resilience in later life.

🧠 Mind & Memory: Stay Curious, Not Fearful

  • Memory fades more from disuse than age. Challenge your mind with reading, conversation, and curiosity.

  • Take a deep breath when irritated. A pause is often wiser than an argument.

  • Don’t force yourself to sleep. Let rest come naturally instead of worrying about the clock.

  • Dementia, in its final stage, can be a gift from God. Forgetting may sometimes be a release from suffering.

🤝 Relationships & Freedom: Let Go to Live Fully

  • Stop trying to please everyone. Life is too short for unwanted obligations.

  • Let go of disliked relationships. Peace matters more than politeness.

  • Living alone is not loneliness — it can be restful. Solitude is freedom, not failure.

🌿 Lifestyle & Attitude: Embrace Simplicity

  • Stop watching too much TV. Passive living dulls the spirit.

  • Don’t chase unnecessary health checkups. Perfection isn’t the goal; comfort is.

  • Don’t aim for a long life — aim for a free one. Joy and autonomy are better than years counted.

✨ Closing Thought

Wada calls people over 80 not “elderly” but “lucky people.” His message is simple yet profound: aging is not something to fight against but a new season to be lived lightly, kindly, and on your own terms.

Meanwhile, Watched for the Book Release of Virginia Roberts Giuffre, Nobody's Girl.

Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein’s most prominent accusers, left behind a sealed manuscript memoir before her death, aiming to expose the systemic failures and powerful people behind sex trafficking—making her story an act of defiance and truth-telling rather than silence.

About the Memoir

Her book, titled Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, is scheduled for release this October. Giuffre, who tragically died by suicide in April 2025 at age 41, finalized the manuscript with journalist Amy Wallace shortly before her passing, expressing her wish that it be published “regardless” of her situation. The memoir reportedly contains “unsparing and definitive” details about her abuse, and names individuals and institutions that failed her and others.

Impact and Controversy

Virginia Giuffre’s fight was marked by her refusal to stay silent—her legal actions against Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Prince Andrew were landmark events that helped put abusers behind bars and expose a global web of exploitation. Her family, however, voiced concerns that the memoir may underplay other forms of abuse she suffered, specifically regarding her husband, perhaps out of concern for her safety and children.

Legacy and Meaning

By choosing not to do a farewell tour or massive press run, Giuffre ensured her last word would be honest, direct, and unmediated—a sealed manuscript that tackles the “truths that no one else dared to name”. Her work is intended to foster awareness, justice, and necessary conversations about sexual abuse and trafficking, refusing to let her story be censored or forgotten.

Notable Inclusions and Exclusions

The memoir does not include abuse allegations against Donald Trump, as confirmed by her publisher—countering some recent speculation connecting the former president to Epstein’s crimes. It does, however, chronicle key meetings and encounters with powerful men across business and politics, along with her own legal fight for justice.

Giuffre’s decision to write, rather than be silent, transforms her victim status into one of agency and advocacy, leaving behind evidence that could drive accountability for years to come.

Personal Note: Donald Trump's current approval rating is around 40% according to the most recent Gallup poll from late August to early September 2025, with disapproval at about 56%–60% among all adults. Aggregated averages from national pollsters place his approval between 38–43%, depending on the poll, with higher support among registered or likely voters compared to all U.S. adults. Notably, there are large partisan divides, with near-unanimous approval from Republicans and very low support from Democrats.

Recent Approval Ratings

  • Gallup (Aug 1–20, 2025):

    • Approval: 40%

    • Approval on the economy: 37%

    • Approval on foreign policy: 39%

    • Approval on education: 38%

  • Pew Research (August 2025):

    • Overall approval: 38%

    • Disapproval: 60%

  • Aggregated Averages:

    • Approval: generally ranged from 38–43% in August–September 2025 (NYT, RealClearPolitics, Silver Bulletin)

  • Trump's net approval rating (approve minus disapprove) hovers between -7 and -10points in recent months.

  • He remains highly popular with Republican voters but has seen a marked drop among independents and young voters who supported him in 2024.

  • Main issues rated: crime policies and Russia-Ukraine mediation get the highest marks (about 42%–40% approval), while economic and international issues rate lower (below 40%).

In summary, Trump's current approval rating stands at about 40% in major, nonpartisan national polling as of early September 2025. For Details read:
